How to nicely tell a private violin instructor for 7 years that I’m moving on to another instructor?

Author: admin  //  Category: Violin

My son has been with this Violin instructor for 7 year, he’s doing very well at school orchestra, all-region and all-state competitions. And we had good relationship with the instructor. Lately my son expressed desire to study with a more prominent violin teacher, we had an interview and he was accepted. Now, we don’t know how to tell the private instructor that we are leaving him.

Help!

The teacher will probably be thrilled that your son was accepted by the more prominent instructor. I know that my goal is for my students to all surpass me, and moving on to more advanced instructors is part of the process. I would not put it in the terms of leaving the first instructor as much as I would stress that you are sharing the happy news that your son has been accepted at the higher level thanks to the ifrst instructor’s help and support.

The gift and the notice is still a good idea, as is making sure to recommend the first instructor to other students at every opportunity. Be sure and invite that instructor to recitals and concerts and try to maintain a relationship if at all possible. We all like to see even our former students doing well.

Which is better, the agile sitar guitar, or the rogue sitar guitar, how is one better?

Author: admin  //  Category: Sitar

I’m wanting to know which one is better and if they’re are made of wood.

They are both made in China, of masonite – like the old Danelectros. Rogue is made for Musicians Friend as a store brand, so they could even be made in the same factory.

I want to learn the accordion but I don’t know what size to get?

Author: admin  //  Category: Accordion

I am teaching myself the banjo(or trying to) and i fancy learning thr Piano accordion. Any advise would be great

A lot of beginners end up with a tiny 12 bass accordion, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Once you get into playing, you’ll probably find it very limiting.

Otherwise, it depends on the type of music you plan on playing. A full size 120 bass accordion will give you the most versatility, while a 72 bass Accordion will save a lot of weight without sacrificing too much playability on all but the most complicated music. A 48 bass accordion would be the smallest I would go, if you need something really light weight.

Also you need to consider whether you want "wet" or "dry" tuning. Each is suitable for different types of music, and you should pick one that suits what you will be playing. The best way would be to try each & see which you like.

I wanna switch to tuba from Trumpet: are the fingerings for the notes the same?

nope! it’s also very different playing a tuba mouth piece because it is much bigger. the tuba takes more air to play as well.

How can I teach myself how to play the harmonica?

Author: admin  //  Category: Harmonica

My grandfather and my father used to play the harmonica. After my grandfather died my dad stopped playing, but now I want to start playing. okay that wasn’t really relevant, but i seriously want to learn. Ive saved up two hundred to buy a harmonica. what harmonica should i get? and how can i teach myself? are there any like self-teaching books that are good? youtube videos?

Budget
Your $200 is plenty to get started. For that amount of money, you could buy a harp, Pignose amp and harmonica microphone . . . everything you need for your blues harp starter kit.

Make & Model
But don’t run out and buy a Pignose amp and microphone. Those purchases are down the road. First, buy a harmonica in the key of C. Maybe a Seydel Solist, Bushman Delta Frost or Suzuki Harpmaster. After determining that you really do love the harmonica, you can pick up harps in the keys of A, D and G (then maybe an F, a Bb, etc.)

Learning
David Barrett’s "First Lessons Blues Harmonica."
Jon Gindick’s "Rock ‘N Blues Harmonica."
Adam Gussow’s YouTube lessons.

I’m searching for flute sheet music for a wedding that I have been asked to play at, any suggestions?

Author: admin  //  Category: Flute

I have been asked to play at my mom’s friends wedding. I play the flute and am looking for sheet music for some wedding songs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could play for when they exchange the rings and light the unity candle and where to get the sheet music?
Unfortunately it will be just me playing at the wedding. I found a lot of songs that require a Piano as well, but that won’t work for me. Thank you all for your suggestions.

Take a quick run to the music store. Look for Flute, Violin or Vocal. You could do any of them.
I have at least 4 violin and 2 vocal books that I have used.
Have something short for the Exchanging of rings and the Unity candle. Repeat if needed, but plan on stopping at the end of any phrase.

TABLA, Harmonium & VOCAL.I have my own feelings regarding music as a whole, though not unique. If anybody of similar interest finds some common ground to meet, most well come.

What is the difference between a baby grand piano and a vertical piano?

Author: admin  //  Category: Piano

I mean besides the style. Do they sound any different? I’m thinking of buying a baldwin piano, but I don’t know if there is any more of a difference between the two pianos besides the style. I really want to learn how to play piano though, so I am. I’d like a baby grand, but most are way too expensive, If I get one, I’m gonna look for something in the 20k-25k zone.

Going against most of your answers. A professional (45" or more) vertical (upright) piano is going to be better than a small grand (5′ 6" and under) because the string length on the upright will be longer, and the area of the soundboard will be MUCH greater. Small grands are most often sold as furniture, not as serious professional instruments. There are exceptions to the rule; the Baldwin R1 (5′ 8") is a very respectable small grand; it also has a price tag of $48,000. The Steinway M (5′ 7") though, I’m not particularly thrilled with the S (5′ 1"); the Mason & Hamlin B (5′ 4") is perhaps the smallest Piano I would consider professional quality in terms of build and sound.

For uprights I’d look to Kawai, Yamaha, Charles R. Walter, August Förster, Mason & Hamlin as top tier pianos.
