How hard is it to learn the violin?

Author: admin  //  Category: Violin

I’ve been able to read music since I was 6 and I’ve played guitar and bass for 8 years. I taught myself Piano, and I play Drums, so I can keep tempo in my head. My only problem is that I’m not sure if I can get used to not having any frets. I refuse to buy a violin with frets, as I think its cheating, and not truly mastering the instrument. Any suggestions for a good beginning violin? I’m only 4 ft 11 in, so I have really tiny hands too. Thanks.

There’s no such thing as a "Violin with frets." I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

The violin is difficult, but can be learned if you have patience and a good teacher. It takes a year to get really good sound, as a rule, and about five years to master all the basics.

Regarding your size, you will need to get a fractional violin; violins come in not just the full size (4/4), but 3/4, 1/2, etc..all the way down to a 1/32.

I’ve started to play the Sitar, but my index finger pains a lot..help!!!!?

Author: admin  //  Category: Sitar

I’m doing a diploma in Sitar, and so am playing and practicing more frequently. Because of this, my index finger skin has not yet gotten used to the strings and after 20mins or so i have to stop because i can’t apply pressure to the strings! So, any good remedies to ease this pain, until the skin toughens?? Thanks!

You can put a band aid around your index finger to cushion it a bit until your fingers get more accustomed to playing.

Looking for the name of Portuguese song with accordion in it?

Author: admin  //  Category: Accordion

I can’t remember the lyrics, but it has a catchy Accordion tune. It’s an old hit song (maybe 70s or 80s), and completely in Portuguese.

Ask this in Portugal and or Brazil in Yahoo!answers, Travel. Between the two you’ll find it.

How soon can I play trumpet after wisdom teeth removal?

Author: admin  //  Category: Trumpet

I got my wisdom teeth removed today and was wondering when I could play the Trumpet. Also, I’d like to know the best way to get back to playing condition. Since it’s the beginning of winter vacation, playing my trumpet is not something urgent. I’d like to practice, but I don’t want to take any risks that would be detrimental in the future.

2-3 weeks. try some low notes at first after about 2, but if you dont feel good doing it WAIT! good luck!

What should i know about the harmonica?

Author: admin  //  Category: Harmonica

So I’m thinking of buying a harmonica over the summer. So far i know that there are wood harmonicas and metal harmonicas. But I’m sure there’s more i need to know, so please tell me:
What should i know about buying a harmonica for the first time, and which is better wood or metal?

The shape of the harmonica controls the sound quality, not the material. Lots of controversy there in the harmonica community, but that is the correct answer. Plastic combed harps are easy to maintiain. Wood performs better because it distributes the heat better, and therefore the water vapor. Metal combs are the worst in that respect. They are also expensive. If you want to learn how to play the harmonica:
http://www.harptabs.com/
http://www.angelfire.com/tx/myquill/Harmonica.html
http://coast2coastmusic.com/general/learn.shtml
http://www.volcano.net/~jackmearl/

OK, in order of value, go to harptabs and fish around. Plenty of links to information to be found. Then work your way down the list.

If you get a big harmonica with a button, the HarpOn website will get you going. http://www.angelfire.com/music/HarpOn/index.html

If you want to pay an expert to answer your specific questions, go to http://www.harmonicalessons.com
It is owned by Dave Gage. He’s only going to charge you about $35 a year.

Some rational places to purchase a harmonica:
http://www.coast2coastmusic.com/
Coast2Coast customers rate the harmonicas exactly like amazon.com rates it’s books.
http://www.harpdepot.com/default.cfm
http://www.harphouse.com/shop/
You won’t be allowed to blow into a harmonica at a music store, and the warranty work is done mail order. So you might as well buy one on the internet. Most experts recommend a Lee Oskar major tuned Harmonica in C, or a Hohner Special 20 in C for a beginner. You can branch out from there after you get going.

How much would it cost to fix my Yamaha flute foot joint?

Author: admin  //  Category: Flute

I have a Yamaha Flute, with an offline G and a C foot joint, It is also an opened-hole Flute and I’ve had for about 4 years now. Lately my foot joint has stopped working, and I found out that the C and the C# key on the foot joint don’t fully close when you press them. Is this fixable and how much would it cost?

This is a minor repair – but as long as you are taking the flute into the shop, spring for an entire COA – clean, oil, adjust. Where there are one or 2 leaks, there are often others, that you just have been compensating for.

what is the name of the song in the euro 2008 commercial promoting the final match?

Author: admin  //  Category: Harmonium

please, it’s a rock song and it’s an electric Guitar. it’s not Harmonium but another one. ive been searching like crazy for this song but cant find it, does anyone know the name?
its not seven nation army nor can u hear me.. those who watched it in espn deportes.. in the commercial theres an electric guitar, then a Piano.. then villa appears celebrating, then, la gran final.. spain vs germany

It’s probably: Can You Hear Me by Enrique Iglesias

I think The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army was just unofficial anthem when the players walked out.
